My old restaurant owner just posted this. Been out of the game for years, wondering what y'all think about this reaction?
Adding the text here, since it's written in teeny tiny font:
"To all servers: The bottom shelf parm shaker tray kept the reach in door from closing all the way. Today everything in this cooler is at 74 degrees. To recoup our loss in sales, food and labor, we will not provide free meals to servers this week. [Plan] on paying full price for meals, bring your own food or eat before your shift. This has happened way too often."

Here's the fridge in question
Yeah, there's your problem. You've got that rack of parms blocking the door.

No doubt this is an infuriating moment for the owner of this store, but there must be a better solution to this issue than just punishing the employees. Perhaps it's worth investing in a parm holder that fits better. Maybe the employees should be instructed to always remove the parmesan canisters from the holder before refrigerating them.
I get why this guy is annoyed, but taking it out on the employees is a bad look, and it won't even necessarily improve things for the next time around. Just because you block a hungry employee from eating doesn't mean some other random employee won't do the same thing by accident.

It's a problem the owner should be solving
Why not offer a cash prize to the employee who actually solves the problem? Wouldn't that be so much more lucrative in the long run?
-
He just looks incompetant
It makes the owner appear as if he's throwing a tantrum over problems that could be easily solved.

How interesting, apparently they keep staffers from previous years in the loop
I can't imagine the owner is in the group though. And I bet the current and former employees have a lot to say about this. It can't be an isolated incident, the boss probably always runs things this way.

See, here's a perfectly great idea
We didn't even have to take away this commenter's lunch to come up with the solution.
